Your Senior Outfits

Senior sessions are a special, exciting event and your clothes are a HUGE element in making your photos look really good. So how do you choose what you wear? I'm going to give you some general categories and advice and I have some Pinterest boards that can help you out too! Of course, your photographer can help you out and will know you and your style so their advice will be more specialized than I am able to do today.

Photographers differ on how many outfits they offer with their senior packages. Three is a pretty common number so that's what I'm going to work with today. When it comes down to it, most outfits will fit into one of these three categories anyway.

#1 Formal
A formal outfit is a MUST for your senior session. This is a once-in-a-lifetime event and you want to look your very best! For guys, the minimum I recommend is a plain colored, collared, button-down shirt, khakis, and dress shoes. To really go for it, wear a dress shirt, tie, and jacket of some kind. If you have a suit, great! If not, a dress sports coat works perfectly. For girls, I recommend a lovely top and skirt or a dress. If you're just really not a dress or skirt girl, then wear a very nice pair of slacks. Think wedding attire or what you're going to wear for graduation.

I recommend showing up to your session in your formal outfit because it's the hardest to get into and travels poorly if it was sitting in your car.

#2 Casual
I'm not talking about what you wear to lounge around in your house, but more comfortable clothes than your formal outfit. We still want a nice overall look so avoid printed tees and ripped clothes. Girls, a jean jacket/vest or some light jacket can bring a more casual look to a dress or shirt/skirt outfit. Jumpers or rompers are also a great casual look. Guys, this is where you can pull out your shorts and plaid shirts! Think going on a date. Casual and comfortable but still looking nice.

#3 Uniforms
This could be sports or your letterman jacket or some kind of spirit wear representing your high school or college. You worked hard at your extra-curricular activities and you are proud to be going to the college you chose so let's showcase that!

Obviously, your outfit choices will be modified by your chosen locations but these should give you a good starting point when you are thinking about clothes. Guys, I know clothes are probably not your favorite thing to think about but do not stress about it! Your photographer will be happy to help you figure things out. That's what we're here for :) Girls, you probably love thinking about clothes but the options are so numerous how will you ever choose?
