I had a mom contact me about doing just a senior headshot for her son. That's not something I normally do, but she is an old friend of the family and so I said I'd be happy to! While I was there, we were chatting and I was looking at her other kids' senior portraits and she mentioned that none of her kids have been interested in doing the whole "senior session" thing. That got me thinking - why should anyone do a senior session? You get a senior picture from school so why spend the money and time to do extra pictures? To each his own, but I'm going to give you a few reasons why I think senior sessions are an important part of the graduation experience and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the matter! 1. You're Graduating!!!
A common saying with weddings is, "you only do this once!" Well, that's just as true with your high school graduation. Even if you do go to college, senior photos are not the same deal. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. 2. It's An Experience You get to be a model for an hour or two! You dress up, do your hair and makeup and someone makes you feel amazing! Okay guys, you don't put as much work into your look, but you get to be a model too! Guess what? Your favorite sports players do photo shoots too :) 3. This Is For You Parents & Grandparents Too I probably don't have to tell you that your parents and grandparents are excited about your graduation and always love new photos of you. You'll make your grandma very happy if you give her a beautiful picture of you for her wall. 4. You Get To Showcase YOU! Your senior session is all about your personality. Even your formal outfit is unique to you. Maybe you are a dress girl or maybe slacks and a blouse is more your thing. Maybe you do the whole suit and tie deal or a button down shirt and khakis. Then you get to incorporate hobbies, interests, and accomplishments. Sure, your mom may have some things she wants, but it's pretty much up to you. 5. This Is A Memory I don't know about you, but when big things happen in life, time can speed up and pass so quickly. Photos help you slow down and have something to mark this time with. Plus, these might be the nicest photos you get taken until your wedding! Maybe a senior session is not for you, but I hope these points gave you something to think about and if you were on the fence, maybe I helped you make your decision! Regardless of whether or not you do a senior photo session, you're still about to graduate from high school and that's exciting! Congratulations! Enjoy the process and celebrate. You're a high school graduate!
