To The Future You

I was putting some papers away and rediscovered a little book called "Me & My Friends - The Book of Us". One of the activities in this book was to have friends write you notes to be opened at some point in the future.

I pulled the book out to look at the notes I've already opened, and discovered that there was one to open this year! (That's the thing about them is, you forget they are in there and when to open them).

There is something so special and almost comforting about reading these notes from the past to me today. One note was from a girl who I had lost touch with by the time I read her note. Other friends I'm still in touch with, but we are not as close as we once were. Their notes are from a time when we were close friends and that in itself is precious to me.

As much as I love opening and reading these notes, I am slightly amused that I've never done it for any of my friends. I plan to do that in the near future because I think it's so fun!!

Have you ever done anything like this? I'd challenge you to sit down and write a note to a friend or family member and then date when they can open it. I had ones for my thirteenth, sixteenth, and seventeenth birthdays, and one for a random date in February of this year. (She wrote it on that day in 2011). I still have two more to open in the future and who knows? I may ask people to write me a few more!

People love to get mail and presents. This is like both of those things in one. The only challenge is keeping them somewhere you won't loose them! :)

(Note: I missed Monday because I was out of town. Actually, I was driving home, but I couldn't post. Now we should be back to regularly scheduled programming :)
