Did you know that there are studies behind having printed photos in your home? I've seen and experienced anecdotal evidence, but people have studied this and found some amazing benefits to having printed photos around the home for children to view. I started hearing things about printed photos helping family relationships and strengthening kids' senses of identity but what I found was wild!
Looking at printed photos helps parents feel like they are doing a good job with their kids. It helps share stories of the family with children. It helps children with their self-esteem. And so much more! This is an excellent article that I found with amazing statistics and I won't reinvent the wheel but take a few minutes to read it! So if printing photos is so valuable, we need to get your photos out of the cloud and into your home! But what does that look like, practically? You've seen beautifully curated gallery walls in people's homes but maybe you don't have the wall space or the eye for that. Does this mean your family can't benefit from printed photos? Of course not! This is your permission to do what works for you. When I was growing up, we had a gallery wall of family photos. The frames did not all match. The photos weren't all professional or even taken by the same professionals. Our outfits weren't always perfectly coordinated. We also had the wall going down to our basement covered in photos from the decades of our extended family histories. I grew up seeing a photo of my dad and uncle as little boys being held by their grand (maybe great-grand?) parents. It wasn't a pretty gallery wall but it was important. Maybe you print photos to put on the fridge. Maybe you can hang a cork board and rotate photos through there. There is always the old-fashioned photo album. (Kids love flipping through books!) If you have a wedding album or proof book, make that easily accessible so your kids know they can ask to look at it. They will love seeing mom and dad in fancy clothes! If you don't have any photos out, I hope you will at least get some for the fridge. Check out this post to see where the best place is to print those images. Happy printing and enjoy having your memories displayed in your home!
