Summer Fun With Friends That Won't Break The Bank

Whether you're a teen trying to save money for a car or college, a college student with no money, or a young adult on a budget, there are a lot of fun things you can do with your friends this summer that are low-cost or even free!

• Go on a picnic. This is on my own summer bucket list. You could do it potluck style where people bring something to share with everyone or you could just meet and each bring your own lunches. The idea is to eat outdoors with your friends and spend a nice afternoon. If you like volleyball or frisbee, you could plan your outing at a place that accommodates those activities and have some activity before or after your picnic lunch.
  
• Do a scavenger hunt. A lot of scavenger hunts are planned by someone and then given to the group. That is fun but you could also plan it together and let everyone contribute to the list. A photo scavenger hunt is free but you could do small purchases if you wanted to. I personally think the photos are the best souvenirs :)
  
• Ice cream. Nothing beats a cold treat on a hot summer day. I love getting Menchie's (yes, technically it's frozen yogurt) with my friends. For those with tight budgets, McDonald's cones are still sweet and cold but don't strain your wallet.
  
• Drive-in movie. Another item on my personal list for this summer. I didn't learn until last year that you didn't have to watch both movies so now I feel free to go! (Some friends of mine have a projector and watch movies out on their back porch many summer evenings. Just another option if you have the space and equipment.)
  
• Beach. Here in Michigan, we have a LOT of beaches. Lakes are plentiful and our state and metro parks are well maintained. If you want something bigger, a Great Lake is not too far away. Lake Michigan is my personal favorite.
  
• Campfire. I have spent countless summer evenings around a campfire. Yum, s'mores!!!
  
• Watch a sunset. This is one that can be easily paired with the previous two and is so relaxing!
  
• Game day. For those days when it is just too hot to be outside, plan a game day! Everyone can bring a game and you can spend the day playing and learning new games. (If this is multiple hour affair, I recommend asking everyone to bring a snack as well).
