Songs Have Memories

I was in a group and someone asked us if we had any songs that are associated with memories. I only shared one or two but I have MANY! For some reason, songs tie me to events more than anything else. Some people it's taste or smell but for me, it's definitely music. And I have good and "bad" memories that are connected to songs. Today I am going to share just a few :) Mostly these are the ones that come to mind without much effort.
Some songs just bring back a moment and more of a feeling than a solid memory, but others transport me back to the event and I can see it all again.

  • Pressing On by Relient K. When I hear this song, I am back in my living room at about five or six years old, and my brother and I are "dancing" while it plays on YouTube on the computer. Our "dancing" always devolved into spinning around as fast as we could until one or both of us fell down :)
  • I've Got A Feeling by The Black Eyed Peas. One Sunday, my Sunday School class had performed in church. I don't remember what we did but for some reason I always think it was the Christmas program or concert. Anyway, we had to go back to our classroom to get our things and this particular day, I walked in to find my classmates all singing this song. I always think of that when I hear it and I'm in 6th grade again.
  • He Is With Us by Love & The Outcome. This one is sad. When I was a sophomore in high school, our youth pastor left our church and a few months later we learned that he did something very wrong (we weren't told details) and had been removed from the pastoral office. It was a life-shaking moment for me, the night we were told this, and I remember going home and the first thing I did was play this song. It was such a comfort and for years, I would tear up when I heard it.
  • We Love You Conrad. One of my oldest friends and I went to see the play "Bye, Bye, Birdie" when we were kids. For some reason, we latched onto this song and we would sing it as we swung on the swingset.
  • Bop To The Top. My neighbor friend taught me sections of this song (again on our swingset. Apparently singing and swing pair well : ) before I ever knew what High School Musical was.
  • Who Am I by Casting Crowns. One semester at my co-op, this song was part of our opening devotional for several weeks, if not the whole semester. So hearing it now transports me back to our opening room where we watched the music or lyric video on a TV. It's also tied to the lady who was doing the devotion, who happens to be one of my favorite people :)
  • Linus & Lucy. Another co-op memory! There was a boy who would play this on the piano during clean up at the end of the night. It's another song that let's me remember a person and a moment.
  • See The Light by TrueVibe. I went to homeschool roller skate days for many years but for some reason, this is one of the songs that takes me back to one of the rinks. There were so many songs played but this one just stuck to those memories.
  • Ooh Ahh (My Life Be Like) by Grits. My brothers and I used to "exercise" to a CD we had that was a sampler album of a lot of different Christian artists. I say "exercise" because one of the things we did was hold on to the bars on the underside of the top bunk of my brothers bunk bed and swing ourselves back and forth :) We were active, but it wasn't really exercise. Again, I'm not sure why this song is the one that stuck to that memory but there you have it.

I'd love to hear from you! What songs from your life have memories, good or "bad", associated with them? Have you heard any of these songs?
