Sometimes Kids Surprise Me

On Good Friday, after dyeing Easter eggs, my brothers and I sat our three cousins down to watch The Greatest Showman because they hadn't seen it yet!! I knew they'd never watch it on their own so this was the perfect time. If you haven't seen it either, sorry, I'm going to tell a part of it. It's been out so long that I figure most people who want to see it have by now.

I was pleasantly surprised at the level of discernment my cousins displayed.

We were watching along and we get to the part where P.T. and Jenny go off for her tour. I wasn't going to say anything to them because I figured they were young enough to probably not really get the fact that they should not be traveling together.

Then, it's just a brief moment, they are in the train car and Jenny lays her head on P.T.'s shoulder. My 9 (almost 10) year old cousin says, "hey! Get your head off his shoulder! You're not married to each other!"

I was taken aback! I really was. He picked up on such a small thing and recognized that it was wrong. On some level, he got it. I told him he was absolutely correct. I don't recall specifically his reaction to when Jenny kisses P.T., but I think he made some comment about it being bad.

This was such a great reminder for me that kids are aware of far more than we realize and they are ALWAYS watching!!!
