September Wrap-Up

It's crazy time! I cannot believe how full my September got. Suddenly, running three business is getting a little bit overwhelming but I just have to keep reminding myself that this is what I've prayed about for years so this is an answered prayer! I do think that some balance needs to be introduced soon, but so far we are making it all work.
This was a great month :) I have been making more recipes and I got my new coloring books, although I've only used them a little bit. Labor Day was nice and my brother did a nice fireworks show!

Around the farm, my dad and a friend from church butchered our pigs. It went... okay. They enjoyed their time together, so that was good. This week, Dad and the boys are redoing the front of the garage. They tore down the whole front and are going to be installing three, single garage doors.

Personal
  • Owl City. I wrote a whole blog post about this concert but it was incredible. I am so glad that I got to see him live again.
  • West Side trip. There's a post about this too. I am really glad I did these trips this year and took time for myself. I definitely need to do at least one more day trip next year.
  • Weekly pumpkin dessert. My recipes have been all pumpkin themed. I've been waiting all year for this! So far I've made Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffins, Pumpkin French Toast Casserole, Pumpkin Spice Cinnamon Rolls, and Pumpkin Spice Muffins.
  • Girls' Movie Night. My friend Kenna and I bought a brownie mix together at our conference last fall with the intention of doing a girls' night but some major things happened in her life and we just now got to it. I think it was perfect timing. It was the two of us and we each had a friend (we both knew the other person's friend, as it turned out) and we watched the 2005 Pride & Prejudice. It was so nice.
  • Put up shelves for Dad. As our birthday gift to our dad, we put up four shelves in the barn and loaded them with various boxes and things that we've piled in the upstairs of the barn. We are slowly trying to get the barn ready for animals, so this was part of that process.

Business
  • Two sessions. One family session and one senior session (coming soon to the blog). The family were new to me and super fun to work with. The senior is the younger brother of a boy my brother played baseball with in high school! So I didn't know him well, but we have a connection.
  • Lots of editing work. The main photographer I edit for had a bunch of sessions this month, which is awesome for her and me! It just added to the craziness.
  • Good things happening with the family business. We are in several farmer's markets this fall (just did our first one) and have already upgraded our display in several ways. We also finally got a system for communicating with everyone what needs done and when.
  • Booked three sessions for October. Another family session and two senior sessions. Though one is for twins so it's kind of like two sessions at one time. I'm super excited! The family session is returning clients (which I love!) and the seniors are all girls who I've gotten to watch grow up. It's such an honor to be taking their senior portraits!
