Product Spotlight: The SJP Print Collection

One of my hobbies is photography. That might sound odd, since it's also my job, but the fact of the matter is that my work photography is quite different than my hobby work. Some people worry that when they make a job out of a hobby, they will lose the fun and the love for it. Thankfully, that did not happen to me and I can keep both!

I love my light and airy style but sometimes, a scene or a moment calls for something else. Early on in my photography journey, I learned to appreciate the emotions that other styles can convey. Sometimes, shadows are crucial to make the photo say what you want it to say. Sometimes you need everything else to be dark to put your focus on the proper element. That's what I can do in my hobby work.

When you check out my print store, you will see photos that won't look like my portrait style. Some are from earlier in my career, but some are from more recently, when I saw something that piqued my interest. You will also see photos that do align with my portrait style as well. It's a blend.

One of my favorite things about still doing nature and other kinds of photography as a hobby is that it allows me to play with creativity in my subject and editing. I can try new things and just see what happens. It can help me get out of a creative rut and I consider it my version of going back to my roots. The things I practice and learn in my hobby sessions make me a stronger photographer in my portrait sessions.
