Mother's Day, Memorial Day, & BIRTHDAYS

May is CHOCK full of celebrations! Mother's Day and Memorial Day are the big ones but I also have FIFTEEN birthdays in my birthday app for the month of May!!! I don't still see some of the people but most of them I can at least text! I don't know what it is about May but for some reason it is the busiest birthday month in my friends and family group.
My church will be doing confirmation back when it belongs and I'm very excited about that. One of my Bright Lights girls is getting confirmed!

I looking forward to my mini session day on the 15th (there are still slots available if you want to get updated photos taken!!) and I'm just excited to be shooting outdoors again. April is hard because there is so much rain and the weather is still quite chilly at times but May is getting into good photography weather!

The most exciting thing of all is that my friend from Nebraska is coming to visit this month!!!! I cannot wait to see her and I know we'll have a fun time while she's here. It will be too short, that's for sure.

May has some cool days to celebrate. Want to see all of them? Check out the official National Days website.
  1. National Loyalty Day. I am a very loyal person (to a fault, actually) and I greatly appreciate loyalty in others.
  2. National Lemonade Day. You could make one of these recipes!
  3. National Raspberry Pop Over Day. Not entirely sure what these are, but to me, it sounds like an excuse to eat a pop-tart :)
  4. National Orange Juice Day & Bird Day. Orange juice is my favorite (no pulp, please) and you could do some bird watching while you sip your drink. My favorite birds are black-capped chickadees and Baltimore orioles.
  5. National Astronaut Day (& Cinco de Mayo). You could learn about Spanish/Mexican cultures and makes some dishes to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and also do some science and history learning about astronauts.
  6. National Beverage Day. I have a feeling this is supposed to be "adult beverages" but I think everyone should drink their favorite beverage. We've already had lemonade and orange juice so I'd go for a Shirley Temple.
  7. National Space Day (first Friday in May). Definitely a science lesson today.
  8. National Miniature Golf Day (second Saturday in May). Take the family or get a group of friends together and go mini golfing!!! It'd be a fun diversion.
  9. National Sleepover Day. I know adults don't typically do "sleepovers" anymore, but you're really never too old. If you have kids, let them do a sleepover with relatives or friends. Bonus is that's a date night for you :)
  10. National Clean Up Your Room Day. While I love cleaning my room, many people (kids) don't, so find a way to make it fun! Turn on the music and do it together.
  11. National Eat What You Want Day. Ask each member of the family for their favorite thing to eat for each meal and then make those things! If I really ate what I wanted, it would consist of a lot of bread and sugar. I would not feel great by the end of the day.
  12. National Limerick Day. I wrote a limerick once for school. It was about Cain from the Bible. I'm pretty sure Limerick has a connection to Ireland so there is lots you could do to incorporate it into schooling.
  13. National Fruit Cocktail Day. Make some fruit cocktail and have it with a picnic!
  14. National Buttermilk Biscuit Day. Oh yes. Homemade breads are heavenly!
  15. Peace Officers Memorial Day. I think it's nice to give them their own day.
  16. National Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day. Pretty self explanatory. Just ask them what you can do.
  17. National Cherry Cobbler Day. My family loves cobblers!!!
  18. National Visit Your Relatives Day. I HIGHLY recommend seeing them in person but if that's not doable, then schedule a video call for today!
  19. National Devil's Food Cake Day. I'll take any excuse to make a chocolate cake, how about you?
  20. National Pick Strawberries Day. I've always wanted to go strawberry picking!!! Maybe this is the year...
  21. National Pizza Party Day (third Friday in May). Again, any excuse to eat pizza is something I am totally good with!
  22. National Solitaire Day. While diamonds would be fun, I think the card game is a little more realistic. This is a one-person game but you could play as a family with each person playing their own game while you are all together. Odd? Yes. But fun!
  23. National Lucky Penny Day. I'll be honest, this sounds cute but I don't know what to do with it! Please let me know if you have any fun ideas!!!
  24. Brother's Day & National Scavenger Hunt Day. If you don't have brothers, do the scavenger hunt. If you do have brothers, do a scavenger hunt with them!!
  25. National Missing Children's Day. This is important more than fun. It's not a celebration as much as a remembrance and a chance to educate your children.
  26. National Paper Airplane Day. Make them, decorate them, (try to) fly them!!!
  27. National Grape Popsicle Day. If you plan ahead for this one you can make your own!
  28. National Hamburger Day. My friend and I used to argue who made the best burgers - my granddad or her uncle. Who makes the best burgers in your family?
  29. National Paper Clip Day. This was really all there was for today. Feel free to grab something from another day to celebrate today. If you come up with something clever and fun for paper clips, please share!
  30. National Creativity Day. Do whatever feels creative to you! Make time and space for creativity.
  31. National Smile Day & Memorial Day (last Monday in May). If you're lucky enough to live somewhere where you don't have to wear a mask constantly, make it a point today to smile at people!!!! Also, take time to be thankful to all those who died for this country and maybe think about what we are doing to their sacrifice.

Other days to note: National Foster Care Day is the first Tuesday in May (the 4th) and National Infertility Survival Day is the Sunday before Mother's Day (the 2nd). The National Day of Prayer is the first Thursday in May (the 6th).

I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :)
