Letterboxing // Scavenger Hunts For Adults

I've been geocaching before; mostly unsuccessfully. If you don't know what that is, it is using GPS coordinates to find a hidden cache where you take something and leave something. Letterboxing is a similar concept, only you don't use GPS and you use stamps.

A friend of mine suggested we do letterboxing together sometime. I didn't know much about it but it sounded fun. A few months ago we made our signature stamps and then this month we went out letterboxing! She found a park that had six in the woods so off we went. It took a while to even know where to find the entrance to the woods (the instructions left much to be desired).

We attempted to follow the directions to find boxes but kept not finding them. I told her, "at least we are getting fresh air and exercise!". But it was a little frustrating. I honestly wasn't expecting to find them after my failed attempts at geocaching.

In the end, we found three out of the eight we attempted. There was one in the woods that we got, one elsewhere in the same park, and one at a complex a few miles away. It was a fun experience, even though I did stab myself in the leg with a stick.

I loved how someone online put it - that letterboxing (and I would add, geocaching) is a scavenger hunt for adults. I hadn't thought about it that way but it's very accurate.
