The snow has already started falling and I am so happy!!! Our Christmas decor is up and it's a little weird knowing that this is our last Christmas in this house. The basement is a constant reminder of that fact. I've even got the Christmas music playing as I write! Yes, Christmas time is here :) I will be doing a gift exchange with my group of friends that meet monthly but Bright Lights is postponing our Secret Santa until January. I have two photo sessions for sure this month and I'm looking forward to making gingerbread!!! What are you looking forward to this month, outside of Christmas?
See the whole month of celebrations here. December 1st - National Eat A Red Apple Day. Let's start the month out healthy!! I actually be eating a red apple and peanut butter for breakfast. December 2nd - National Mutt Day. Another day for all my dog lovers! Do you have a mutt? December 3rd - National Roof Over Your Head Day. If you live in the north, you're especially grateful for your roof in the winter with all the snow. December 4th - National Sock Day. Are you a black and white sock person or do you have all the fun socks? I am a fun sock person. I even do mismatched! This month I'm breaking out the Christmas socks. December 5th - International Ninja Day. I basically live with a ninja. My one brother pretty much dresses in all black and is so quite when he walks around. I'll have to remind him to wear his ninja shirt to celebrate. December 6th - St. Nicholas Day. Do you know the story of St. Nicholas? If not, you should look it up because his story is where our idea of Santa Clause comes from! December 7th - National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. I know that the hashtag #neverforget is usually used for 9/11 but it aptly applies to this day as well. Pearl Harbor should never have happened and needs to never happen again. Learn from history. December 8th - Pretend To Be A Time Traveler Day. Where would you travel if you could time travel? I was just telling my mom that I'd love to travel to an area and see what it looked like throughout history. Like, to see Detroit when the Indians lived here and then to see it as it got developed. December 9th - Christmas Card Day. One of the reasons I love December is all the fun mail you get! When else do you get something you actually want to open almost every day? I love the photo cards and the letters, but anything is special because that person took the time to send it to us! December 10th - Dewey Decimal System Day. I have to admit that I don't quite grasp this system, since it is number based and numbers and I don't get along, but it's related to libraries and I love libraries! I also don't know much about Dewey or how he came to create the system so it is a good learning opportunity! December 11th - National App Day. Could I pick just one app as my favorite? Probably not. I think, of the apps that don't come with my phone, my favorites would be Lightroom, Spotify, and Kindle. Photography, music, and books. That pretty much sums me up :) December 12th - Gingerbread House Day. I have only done a gingerbread house twice in my life, but maybe I'll do my cookies on this day! December 13th - National Cocoa Day. My favorite cold-weather drink. When a friend wants to get coffee, I'll have hot chocolate, thank you very much. December 14th - Monkey Day. One of my mom's favorite animals is the monkey and sometimes it seems like we live in a house of monkeys! December 15th - Bill Of Rights Day. Learn these and protect them. If we don't, one day they will be gone and we'll wish we had them back. December 16th - National Chocolate-Covered Anything Day. I'm not sure about anything, but I do love things covered in chocolate. Especially dark chocolate. Yum! What is your favorite thing to be chocolate-covered? December 17th - National Maple Syrup Day. Have you ever tried to make maple syrup? It's a LOT of time and work for very little return but I guess it's good enough to make it all worth it? It's definitely an experience. Once you've tried making it, you are thankful for the bottles in the store and you understand why it's so expensive! December 18th - Answer The Telephone Like Buddy The Elf Day. Oh man, what would this be like? Lots of laughs, for sure. December 19th - National Oatmeal Muffin Day. I've never had one but I love oatmeal cookies so this sounds good! Maybe I'll look up a recipe and make some. December 20th - Mudd Day. "Do you know the expression, 'His name is Mudd?'" "Of course." "You do? Do you know the origin of the expression?" "Does anyone but you?" That exchange is from National Treasure 2 (great movie) but if you haven't seen it, you probably don't know the expression's origin. Today, you can learn! One lesson is, be careful who you associate with. December 21st - Crossword Puzzle Day. Puzzle lovers, this day is for you! December 22nd - Forefathers' Day. There is a lot of history celebrated this month! This day commemorates the landing of the Pilgrims at Plymouth and has been observed since 1769!! That's a long time! December 23rd - National Roots Day. (Also Christmas Adam :) This is a day to learn about your family history and genealogy. It's a good time because a lot of extended family is usually around for Christmas. (If you get my Christmas Adam joke, let's be friends!) December 24th - Christmas Eve. My family celebrates our Christmas today. Many families go to Christmas Eve church service and prepare for the following day. December 25th - CHRISTMAS!!! Church, family time, good food, and gifts. Hopefully, snow is also included. What is something special your family does for Christmas? December 26th - National Candy Cane Day. This festive treat has traditional Christian symbolism, whether the legend is true or not, and comes in all sorts of flavors beyond the traditional peppermint. Do you hang them on your tree? December 27th - National Fruitcake Day. My dad loves this holiday treat... and he's the only one in our family who does :) Somehow he ends up getting one each year. I feel like it, along with eggnog, are very much "you like it or you don't" treats. Which side are you? December 28th - National Card Playing Day. We are a game playing family and are favorite card games are Euchre, King's (In The) Corner, and Tens. What are your favorite card games? We would love to learn some new ones. December 29th - Tick Tock Day. This one made me laugh :) It's the day to finish up any last-minute things that still need to be done this year. The clock is going "tick tock"! December 30th - Bacon Day. Oh, my family will love this one! Especially the male members of my clan. Bacon is all the rage these days and I can't remember a food ever being such a fad as bacon is. December 31st - New Year's Eve. Each year it's a surprise how we will celebrate this day. Do you have traditions or just do whatever comes along that year? I love how much time there is this time of year, starting with Thanksgiving, to get together and celebrate with people. It is so important. Please don't let fear rob you of people. Be with your loved ones, while you have them. I know too many people this Christmas who don't.
