My goal each October is to avoid Halloween stuff as much as possible. I'm not a fan of the creepy and gross decorations so this is a hard month for me, but I do like the cooler weather, the pumpkin decor, and the pumpkin flavors :) Time to pull out our fun Styrofoam pumpkins that we carved years ago. I'm doing my first-ever Christmas mini sessions at the end of this month! It's hard to get in the mindset of thinking about Christmas in September and October, to be sure, but I"m very excited about it!
October is my baseball detox month. It's very weird to not have games to look forward to each evening. I have started to adjust much quicker the last few years (thankfully), and I'm good by the end of the month. It's funny because baseball starts the last week of February/first week of March with spring training, the seasons starts end of March/beginning of April, runs through the end of September/first couple days of October. I use October to get used to no baseball and then by the end of January I'm getting super antsy for it to start again. So I only have two to three months that is pretty baseball-free :) Does anyone else feel like they haven't had time to process that we are in a new month before it's almost over? I'm feeling like I'm constantly behind the last couple of months! I don't have any other big plans but I'm for sure getting some cider doughnuts!!! I can't wait! But you're really reading this to plan out your October celebrations, aren't you? Let's get to it! (See the full list here.) October 1st - National Homemade Cookies Day. Mine would be pumpkin chocolate chip :) What about yours? October 2nd - National Name Your Car Day. I just asked my IG community if they named things like cars!!! Ours are Argent, Behemoth, Bernard, Stop, & Caution. October 3rd - National Boyfriend Day. Can we celebrate the boys who are our friends if we don't have a boyfriend? October 4th - National Taco Day. I have a friend who will definitely want to know this one. Too bad it's not on a Tuesday. October 5th - National Do Something Nice Day. I like these days that help us to be intentional with kindness to those around us. October 6th - National German-American Day. I picked this one because I'm mostly German on my dad's side of the family! They came over in the late 1800s for the most part, so I don't have a strong connection to Germany. October 7th - National Chocolate Covered Pretzel Day. Oh yum!!!! I tried to make these once and it didn't turn out that well. I don't think I had the right kind of chocolate. October 8th - National Hero Day. I love this line from the website: "On October 8th, National Hero Day honors the people we look up to and who inspire us to be the best person we can possibly be." October 9th - National Pro-Life Cupcake Day. Apparently this day is supposed to help conversations happen over a sweet treat that everyone loves. I think it's a wonderful idea! October 10th - National Angel Food Cake Day. You can tell we are getting into the holiday season with all the sweets, can't you? October 11th - General Pulaski Memorial Day. I have never heard of this Revolutionary War hero, so I learned something new about my country's history!!! The site has some cool info and ways to learn more. October 12th - National Farmer's Day. I think we are all thankful to have farmers so we can eat everyday!! October 13th - National Train Your Brain Day. My brain could use some training and retraining in certain areas. October 14th - National Dessert Day. Because we need a catch-all day for the desserts we missed over the course of the rest of the year :) October 15th - National Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day. I love how Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep honors the lives of the babies who die at birth or shortly after. October 16th - National Dictionary Day. When I was in school, I HATED looking words up in the dictionary, but they are very helpful, I must admit. October 17th - National Pasta Day. Spaghetti for dinner anyone? I am partial to fettuccine alfredo myself. October 18th - National Chocolate Cupcake Day. More cupcakes in October! I won't complain. But here's the question... do you split the cake and put half on top of the frosting or just eat it as it is? October 19th - National Seafood Bisque Day. This is something I wish I could like. It sounds like comfort food!! October 20th - National Youth Confidence Day. I think this is becoming a much more needed day. Kids are very insecure these days. October 21st - National Pumpkin Cheesecake Day. And here we have it! The first pumpkin-themed item of October! I love pumpkin-flavored things and I love cheesecake but the last time I had pumpkin cheesecake, it wasn't that good. Sad. October 22nd - National Make A Dog's Day. I'm not entirely sure how to do that, except for give them lots of treats and attention. What would make your dog's day? October 23rd - iPod Day. It makes me laugh that we have an iPod day when iPods aren't even a thing really anymore. This can be a day when we reminisce about our iPods. October 24th - National Mother-In-Law Day. I have been so blessed that my parents get along so well with their in-laws. It's really special. October 25th - National Greasy Food Day. I'll have to pass on this because I cannot eat super greasy food, but you all enjoy!! What's your favorite greasy food? October 26th - National Pumpkin Day. This can be the day you carve or paint your pumpkins for your porch decorations!!! We used to paint them as kids. I even did a project once where I glued crayons to the top of the pumpkin and them melted them with a hairdryer and they dripped down the sides. It was a cool effect. October 27th - National Civics Day. Again, a much needed day these days. Civics can be really fun if you have the right teacher and curriculum. October 28th - National First Responders Day. Let's never stop celebrating and being thankful for them! October 29th - National Cat Day. Finally, the feline lovers get their day! October 30th - National Candy Corn Day. I feel like people either love it or hate it. Where do you stand? We tried s'mores candy corn this summer. I was not a fan but my family loved it!! I like the regular candy corn. October 31st - National Knock-Knock Jokes Day. Let's brighten up the day with some humor, even if it's punny.
