Is Editing Slowing Down Your Workflow?

Are you overwhelmed by the thought of all the photos you have waiting to be edited? Does the number staring back at you scare you? There is a simple trick that can help with that and I"m going to share it with you today!

Editing is not everyone's favorite thing to do. For some, it is just another step in the process and it can often become the pain point of your workflow. Who has time to deal with hundreds or thousands of photos?

Culling can often be a stumbling block but today we are assuming you've already culled your images (if you're not culling backward, you're missing out!) and are ready for the editing portion of the workflow.

There is a simple way to ease the overwhelm of the number staring back at you and that is to break the shoot down into smaller subfolders. Here's an example: In The Jenkins Family folder, you might break it down into "Kids", "Whole Family", "Mom & Dad", "Mom & Kids", "Dad & Kids", etc. Each of those might only have 10-20 images in them and you should have already edited one or two images from each one for the blog/sneak peek. You might not have 2 hours to edit, but you might have 15 or 20 minutes to do a subfolder. This is an even bigger game changer for wedding photographers who have hundreds of images to deal with.

Another trick would be to start with your least favorite part of the session and work your way to your favorite part. (I'm not saying you actually didn't like a part of the session, but there may have been an absolute 'WOW' part and you want to save that for last). This doesn't help you if you're short on time but it does help you with motivation. You're motivated to keep editing because you know you're getting to the pretty stuff soon.
