I Want To Be Known For What I Am For, Not What I'm Against

Some in the media have taken to calling people and organizations who are pro-life "anti-abortion". Words are powerful and the media knows that. This word choice is intentional. Framing people as "anti", showing what they are against, is a negative connotation.
I think we focus too much on what people are against. We focus too much on negative things. We say we want unity but then we label people in divisive ways. If I say someone is "pro-life" or "anti-abortion", which one sounds better? Which one sounds divisive and which one sounds kind?

"Pro" means for and and "anti" means against. One is positive and one is negative. That's just how we perceive things. Because this is how people perceive words and labels, we have to be mindful of how we use prefixes and words!!!!

I understand that by knowing what someone is "for" there is generally an understood or implied "against". There are at least two camps and viewpoints for most things. But I'd rather people know me first and foremost for the things that I am FOR, rather than the things that I'm against.

I am FOR strong families.
I am FOR life.
I am FOR being able to make your own decisions.
I am FOR Christ.
I am FOR freedom.
I am FOR truth and justice.
I am FOR working hard.
I am FOR people & humanity.
I am FOR kindness & love.
I am FOR listening.

Now, a lot of those words are taken various ways these days. People interpret them differently but just because someone defines kindness differently than I do doesn't mean I'm not for kindness. It means we need to have a discussion on what kindness looks like.

Please, find out what your friends, family, neighbors, etc are FOR and then ask them what that means. Focus on positives, not negatives.

When pro-life people are called "anti-abortion", the goal is to make us sound heartless and cruel and that we don't care about women. That could not be further from the truth. So if you know someone who is pro-life, ask them what that means. What do they stand for? Do the same for anything they say they support. If you love them, learn why they support that. You don't have to agree or start supporting it too, but you can try your best to understand.

I'd love to know what you are FOR!!!!! Let's share our support, not our disagreement.
