I felt like July was busy but August is about to really turn up the heat (pun intended :) There are also a bunch of really fun national days to celebrate! Are you ready to get into it? This month I have family coming into town for almost a week, a family gathering for the other side of my family, a family photo session, and a wedding! That's a lot of socializing for this introvert :) I also am watching my old babysitter's baby one day a week now!! How crazy is that? I don't do much childcare anymore, but I love getting my "kid fix" here and there with the occasional job. I can't believe summer is basically over. With how early everyone starts school these days, summer flies by! I have friends in college and it really is sad how short of a window they have to see everyone. What are you plans to finish off the summer? Check out this month's national days if you need help with ideas! August 1st - Respect For Parents Day. My parents' birthdays are in August so this is just a bonus for them! Really, I hope we are all respecting our parents every day of the year but a day to remind us is a great idea. (National Friendship Day is the first Sunday in August) August 2nd - National Coloring Book Day. I enjoy coloring but those crazy detailed ones are a bit much. Do you enjoy the detail or do you like simpler designs? August 3rd - National Watermelon Day. The men in my family LOVE watermelon. I like watermelon mojito smoothies :) August 4th - National Chocolate Chip Cookie Day. I'll take any excuse for chocolate chip cookies!!! The only question is, do I bake them or eat the dough raw? (Yes, I'm one of those people :) Also, to make your cookies extra good, use brown sugar instead of white. August 5th - Make Your Own. There was nothing good today so I'm listing it as a wild card/make-your-own kind of day! I'd love to hear what you come up with! August 6th - National Water Balloon Day (first Friday in August). I love watching a good water balloon fight and the water balloon tosses are always fun. Those things can hurt when you get hit, though! August 7th - National Lighthouse Day. A lighthouse means a beach and water so I'm happy! My grandparents used to like visiting lighthouses together and I like taking pictures of them. There is so much history surrounding lightouses. August 8th - National Frozen Custard Day & Global Sleep Under The Stars Night. There is a place in Lafayette, Indiana that is a family favorite for frozen custard and a local place that is excellent as well. I had some cappuccino brownie from there recently that was so good! As for the sleeping under the stars, I like the concept but I wouldn't be able to pull it off. Can you? August 9th - National Book Lovers Day. This is my day!!!!!! I may buy a book to celebrate :) August 10th - National S'mores Day. I love s'mores. How fancy do you get? I've done Reese's Cups for the chocolate and have had chocolate graham crackers but that's the most I've done. August 11th - National Son's & Daughter's Day. In addition to birthdays, we get celebrated in August also? Cool! There are virtually endless possibilities to how you could celebrate this day. August 12th - National Middle Child Day. What do you do if you have an even number of kids or only one kid? Well, all the middle children (who tend to get left out a lot) get recognized today. August 13th - International Left Handers Day. My cousin is left handed and so are a couple of my friends. I am always very impressed by left handed people who can write and draw beautifully. It seems so difficult! August 14th - National Code Talkers Day. If you don't know about the Navajo Code Talkers, you should take some time to get acquainted with their story! It's incredible and one of my favorite stories from WWII. I recommend the book "Code Talkers" by Chester Nez. August 15th - National Relaxation Day & National Leathercraft Day. As crazy as it sounds, I think we need to make intentional time to relax. Maybe you relax by doing leathercraft. My brother does a bit of it and I have enjoyed seeing an online friend work on her projects. People are so creative and talented. August 16th - National Tell A Joke Day. I'm not really a joke teller, but I love to hear jokes and laugh so if you're a joke teller, please leave a joke in the comments! Make someone laugh today. August 17th - National Thrift Shop Day. The place of hidden treasures and some of the weirdest stuff you'll ever see, am I right? Are you a thrifter or someone who wants to become a thrifter? I want to start doing it more. August 18th - National Ice Cream Pie Day. What is the difference between an ice cream pie and an ice cream cake? Well, it's August and there is ice cream involved, so I'm set.
August 22nd - National Be An Angel Day. You could dress up as an angel, or you could just be very good and kind today.
August 23rd - National Sponge Cake Day. Tea and British accents as well? August 24th - National Waffle Day. My friends and I had a waffle party a few years ago where we made waffles and then had a variety of toppings to choose from. It was so much fun (and slightly nutty with all the sugar :) August 25th - National Kiss & Make Up Day. Kissing may not always be appropriate, but burying the hatchet is good for everyone. August 26th - National Dog Day. Where are all my dog lovers at?! If I had to pick a favorite breed, I think it would be Golden Retriever. What about you? August 27th - National Just Because Day. What would you do "just because"? They really leave this one open-ended so be creative! August 28th - National Thoughtful Day. We have a lot of opportunities to be kind to others this month and I really like that! Send someone a nice text, mail a card, buy your spouse a small gift... do something thoughtful for someone! August 29th - National Lemon Juice Day. I like making homemade lemonade, drinking lemon water, and I use lemon juice for making lemon-flavored baked goods. Oddly enough, it's kind of a staple item in our house. August 30th - National Beach Day. If I could make it work, I'd love to spend the day on Lake Michigan. The beaches are just beautiful. Today is also National Grief Awareness Day and I feel like a beach is a good place to go if you are grieving. Beauty and peace in one place. August 31st - National Trail Mix Day. No raisins in mine, please!!!! Enjoy celebrating all throughout August! Do you have any fun plans?
