Family Sessions Can Be FUN!

While I definitely get your traditional posed portraits, my favorite part of family sessions is the interaction images! These are loosely posed - I give a direction for you to follow and then I step back and capture the interaction - and slightly candid. It's these photos that usually end up having the most genuine smiles, which families LOVE!

The prompts I use depend on the number of kids and their ages, but here are a few of my favorites!

Tickle Fight!!

It's kind of a free-for-all and I will sometimes do this just with the kids alone. It gets great smiles and connection.

Run & Hug

Kids LOVE to run! This photo is so touching and the focus is really on the adults' reactions. You can get some very touching expressions :)

Swinging Child - I haven't done this one in years because it can only be done with one child and most of my clients have several. It also has to be an older child so their arms can handle it :) But this gets great smiles from the child and the parent!

Run Around Mom & Dad

With this one, the more kids the better! It's fun for the kids and gives a little glimpse into what life is probably like for a family with a lot of children :)

Babies

A great way to get smiles from a baby, especially if they are not super happy about these photos, is to swing them up in the air! It makes a super cute photo in general and usually gets a smile from the littlest member of your family.

Rest assured, you won't just be standing and smiling at the camera the whole time during your family session. I like to encourage interaction and movement, yes for the kids, but it's fun for the adults too! And if you have a fun thing you do as a family, let me know and we can incorporate it into the poses!
