I normally do my portrait sessions outside. But that means we can only do it in good weather. Which, being that I live in Michigan, means usually only May through September. Spring and fall are rainy and cold and winter is, well, winter. So what about sessions that need to happen during those months? Are there any reasons other than weather that might lead you to need a studio session? The answer to that question is YES! There are three main reasons (besides weather) that might lead you to book a studio for your session, and they all deal with aspects of your house.
The first one is that you don't want to clean your house! That might sound silly but it's a legitimate concern. Most of my in-home sessions are newborn sessions. So the family has a brand new baby, usually a week old or less, and the last thing they want to be thinking about is cleaning up. Now some moms don't want to go out that soon after having a baby, but for those who don't want to deal with their house, a studio session is a blessing. Another element is the size of your rooms. Sometimes I have extended family sessions and it can be challenging to fit everyone into a living room in Grandma's house. If you have a large group, whether it's your immediately family or extended family, a studio has plenty of space for everyone. Last, in this list anyway, but certainly not least is LIGHT! If your home doesn't have good natural light, it becomes very hard to get the style you are looking for in your photos. Studios have large windows that provide great light, even on cloudy days. Some homes might have a combination of these elements, and there may be other things specific to your own home that will make you want to go to a studio space. While I don't have my own studio, I have found several great options for you! I'm so excited to finally be able to offer this service for my clients and the people who own these studios are so wonderful. It's going to be great to work with them as well :) Would you be interested in a studio session? Maybe holiday minis? Let me know in the comments.

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
