Back in October, I purchased my third Katelyn James course. I have loved following her and learning from her and she has made such an impact on my business. This new course, her Business Collection, just might have the greatest impact yet!

Photos Are Priceless

This summer, I had the privilege of doing an extended family session for a family I met through my brother's baseball team. The last time they had taken a photo together, the two youngest grandchildren were not born and the other three grandkids were still kids. Now one was getting married and the grandparents wanted to commemorate this time they were all together.

Is It Just Me?

I know better.
I know that my worth is not found in my work.
I know that my work does not define me.

That's why I was so surprised and a little bit shocked when the realization hit me.

How To Not Let Technology Consume Your Time

I'm going to preface this by saying I'm not perfect at what I want to share with you today. I simply am trying to find a good balance with what my job requires and letting it take over.

Technology is a huge part of the photographer's life. We use our computers to edit and check email and blog and work on our website updating our portfolio. Maybe we're engaging on Facebook and Instagram. This is all very good for our business and getting our name out there but it is so easy to get sucked in. The question becomes, "how to utilize the tools we have available without letting them consume us?". I'm going to share with you a few things I've done and I hope you'll share your own tips with me!

It's On My Heart And Mind

I've gone back and forth on whether or not I was going to blog about this. I try to stay away from political issues on the internet. Not because I don't think they need discussed but because I don't think this is the place to have those discussions. However, this is something that touches my business so I think it's appropriate for me to say something about it.

THIS Is When You Need Your "Why"

1/10/2019

"When the going gets tough, the tough get going".

So says folk wisdom. Maybe that works for other people, but not me. When things get complicated and super hard, if I'm not invested in it, I'm super tempted to just stop. It has to be worth the effort and headache. There has to be a significant motivation pushing me forward.

A "why".

Specialize, Specialize, Specialize

I have heard, from several different professional photographers, that it's best for your business to specialize in one or MAYBE two things. Just do weddings and newborns. Or weddings and seniors. Or seniors and newborns. You get the idea.

I'm still pretty new, so I'm doing just about everything that deals with portraits of people. But that's a specialization in itself, is it not?

Click With People

I'll confess that I've not really looked into photography quotes much, but I've found several that really say my 'why' well. One of them is by Alfred Eisenstaedt:
"It is more important to click with people than to click the shutter."

People Come First

I was going to post on Wednesday.

I had something in the morning, but I thought there would be time between that and my afternoon appointment. If not, I had the rest of the day. But things didn't "go according to plan".

    Hi! I'm Sarah!

I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :)
