 When you find a photographer that you want to hire, you probably wanted to see their work. Maybe you've followed them on Instagram and have fallen in love with their style. Or maybe you were scrolling through their portfolio. Either way, you needed to see their work to help you make a decision.

 If you've ever worked with a professional photographer, you have probably seen in the contract that your rights are limited to personal use only. You can't sell the images or edit them. Why not? They're your photos, right? Shouldn't you be able to do whatever you want with them?
 "She's so good with names!"
I could hear the surprise in their voice. I was working on a large family session and overheard this comment from one of the family members as I was directing people in and out of poses. Typically, when I do a large family session, I am meeting most of the individuals for the first time. However, I make it a priority to learn their names FAST!  You may have heard photographers talking about documenting. Wedding photographers document a day and portrait photographers document a season of life. Documenting something is so much more than just taking photos. It's capturing moments and personalities. It's freezing time so that you can go back and remember who you were at a given point in history. This is why I take a lifestyle, candid approach to my sessions.
 I have started a new section of my client experience and overall workflow process that we're going to unpack today. This is the first section of any client gallery and it is called "Sarah's Favorites". What is that and why is it important?
 Trees are beautiful. I love looking at a tall, green tree, or driving through "forests". I just really love trees. Most people do and most people think they are great backdrops for their photos. While they can be beautiful scenery, they have to be utilized in a specific way in order to have the lovely light and skin tones that we want for your photos!!
 A few weeks ago, I did a "this or that" post with questions I gathered from Instagram. One question was "black & white or color". It's an interesting question that doesn't have a good answer. I want to explain a little bit about why photographs kind of tell you which way they need to be. I realize that might sound crazy, but as I've edited, I start to know when a photo needs to be B&W.
 If you've worked with a professional photographer before and signed a contract, then you've seen the clause about not adding any filters or edits to the photos. Maybe you wonder why they say that in their contract. After all, they are YOUR photos, right? Well that's what we are going to discuss.
