 Spring break is coming and summer will be here before we even know it. Some people have elaborate plans for these times but if that's not you and your friend group, what will you do with your time? I've got ten ideas to get you started and these might jump start your imagination to other fun things!

 We are just on the other side of a busy holiday season. Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's means lots of gatherings with family and friends, as well as seeing people we might only see once or twice a year. That can mean awkward questions from these people who mean well but don't always think about what they are asking. I think there is a better question that we can ask.
 What is community? What does it mean? What does it look like? Is it coffee dates and brunches and intentional time with no distractions? Is it activities and events? Yes, it is those things, but is it more? What if it went deeper than that?
 When I was growing up, I thought everyone had support and a community who would rally around them in difficult situations. I have experienced giving support and receiving it and honestly, I don't know how people do without it.
 This was a little different for me. Actually, I've never done anything like it before. I went to a collaborative photo shoot with zero control. I didn't have a say in the location, time, or what the models wore. It challenged me and let me play with lighting that I never would have picked.
 When I was looking for a new journal, I knew exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to exist.
For YEARS now, I've looked for stationary sets because I LOVE writing letters to people. While I still haven't quite found what I"m looking for in a journal or stationary, I have found some really cute shops that have amazing products and I can't wait to tell you about them!  A few days ago, I posted about how I don't think there can be an over-saturated photography market. Most of the focus was on the client, but I talked a little bit about community as well. Today I want to focus in more on that community aspect and talk about why we don't need to be afraid of our so-called "competition".
 A lot of people think that photography is super competitive. They lament an "over-saturated market". I think it's all about how you look at it. I certainly have not found an over-saturated market in my area!!! I have been searching and searching for other photographers around me because I am looking for community.
I am very happy alone. I spend most of my days doing things by myself. Sure, my family is around, but I'm not actively interacting with them (much to their chagrin). As an introvert, I don't need lots of social interaction. However, even we introverts need support in our efforts. I am so blessed with an over-abundance of wonderful family and friends who encourage and support me in life and business.
Growing up, I heard about kids who were badly affected by social media. I didn't have any accounts, but my friends who went to public and private school would talk about that sort of thing.
It makes me sad that some people deal with hurt from their social media accounts, but I have found a wonderful community. |
