I've made some big decisions, for both me and my business but they are not completely out of nowhere. One has been in the back of my mind for a few years now but I didn't think I could do it. Now I don't know that I can't NOT do it.
I'm leaving Instagram and changing how I share my work in a big way.

Editing takes a significant amount of time. Even with good systems and making good decisions in-camera, post-session work is time consuming. That's why I am an editor for other photographers. I take that time off their plate and it frees them to do other things in their business. But sitting in silence for hours on end is no fun, so what does an editor do to pass the time?
No one really knew. I certainly didn't. It wasn't until months later that she told me just how special the photos were to them.
I talk about how photos freeze a moment in time and let you hold on to precious memories but this experience that a client told me about drove that point home in a whole new way. Did you know that creatives aren't endlessly creative? We go through seasons were we have a seemingly inexhaustible supply of ideas and other times it seems like we will never have another idea ever again :) It's the creative's version of writer's block and there are things that we can do to get out of it.
It's story time! I'm sharing the story of one of my biggest goofs to date in my career. (Thankfully I haven't topped it yet!) Even though this happened years ago, I still remember it so well and all the emotions that went along with it.
I had a Sunday School teacher once who always said, "we don't play games, we have learning experiences." My twist on it is, "we don't have failures, we have learning experiences". And it's taken a lot of growth to get to the point where I can say that!
I've been teasing you all month about my Top Secret Project. Have you been coming up with ideas of what it could be? Well, the big reveal is coming soon, but in the meantime, I'm giving some hints!
New things are kind of scary, even if you're excited. Anything you work hard on can be hard to release to the world because what if they don't like it as much as you thought? My Top Secret Project is exciting but also a little nerve wracking because I've never done anything like it before.
At the end of last year, I started thinking about what I could do to take my business to another level. There was an idea that I've had in the back of my mind for a few years now and I decided that 2023 was the year I was going to try it.
Who's ready to time travel? Today I am sharing a peek into where I started back in late 2017/early 2018. I cringe a little bit but then I remind myself that I
a) did not know what I was doing and b) was brand new! So I have to give myself grace and just appreciate where I am now. Do you want to see what my first website looked like? |
Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
