Years have themes by which they are remembered. 2007 was the year my co-op started and my cousin was born. 2010 was the year I got sick. Some years are characterized by good things and others are remembered as bad. The truth is that all years have elements of both, but most tend to have a few big things in one vein or the other. Unfortunately, 2025 is going to be remembered as a not-s0-good year for me, but I'm going to do my level best to find as much good as I can to help balance out this letter/recap!

McKenna's fall senior portraits at Kensington Metropark were SO dreamy!! While the weather didn't feel like fall, we managed to find some color and really make her vision for her senior photos come to life.
Oh the joy of watching families grow and grow up! I was so excited to be asked back to capture this little guy's one year photos AND provide updated family photos for them. Mom has gallery walls in her house that she updates each year so we know these aren't going to just live on a phone or hard drive!
Well... it's been a while but I have not dropped off the face of the earth. I have struggled with anxiety for a number of years now and in July, I had a major attack. One of the worst ones to date, at least that I can remember. So this post is going to be an update and also sharing a bit about my anxiety for the first time. As always, I am so thankful to you for your continued support and for being a part of my tribe!
(And I think I am finally *mostly* back to normal!!!) One of the greatest challenges, in my humble opinion, of a business owner in today's social world is how to balance filming and documenting life vs. actually being present and living it. Because you experience an event very differently watching it live or viewing it through a screen.
While downtowns are not exclusively for senior portraits, most sessions that want a bit of an urban look are senior sessions, at least for me. With families, it usually works better to be in a studio or a park of some kind. So in this post, I will be mentioning senior photos, but if you want to have your session in one of these places and you're not a high school or college senior, let's talk and see how we can make that happen for you!
It's the weirdest thing. For some reason, I always feel like summer is starting to end when July rolls around when, really, it is the height of summer! I hope it won't be hot like the end of June. Yuck! But I've got some big things I'm looking forward to this month and I can't wait to see what else comes up.
Overall, this was a GREAT month! The two downsides (allergies and heat) were not enough to overshadow all the fun things that happened this June. It has been a wonderful start to the summer and just what I needed.
One thing that is so fun about brand sessions is the fun things that I get to help other entrepreneurs with their business dreams and goals! Watching Mary launch her home bakery business is so exciting and it was a pleasure to help her with this aspect of creating a new venture - content creation!
Most of my clients come from word of mouth so it was a nice surprise to hear from Kristi, as she just found me from a web search! From reading her answers to the questionnaire, I could tell that this was a family who cared about each other and it's always fun to work with families like that! Perfect weather and a fun family equals photo magic!

Hi! I'm Sarah!
I am a natural light portrait photographer. I've been taking photos since 2014 and would eat a smoothie from Tropical Smoothie Cafe for lunch everyday if I could. Thank you so much for stopping by. I blog about sessions, things I'm learning, stuff in my life, and information for YOU, my client. If you like what you see around the site, I'd love to work with you! I'd also love to connect with you on Instagram. I'm @sarah_jayne_photo :) Archives
