 Getting to know this girl more over the past year and really the past few months has been a joy! Her mom asked me about a year and a half ago to make sure I had room to do her daughter's senior photos this summer/fall :) I'm so excited that time is here but also cannot quite believe it! In the spirit of the year, we had quite an eventful experience together!

 I'd been looking forward to this weekend since last year when retreat ended. When things were shutting down and getting cancelled back in the spring, I was sure retreat was not going to happen and I was very disappointed. Imagine my excitement when I found out they were going ahead with it!!!
I really needed the break and the weekend was different and better than I could have planned or imagined :)  When you have young kids, you want to get out and DO things. You want to be out of the house. But what can you do with kids? What are good kid-friendly places? What places should you avoid?
Research can be overwhelming, exhausting, and time-consuming, so what if there was a place you could go for recommendations? Someone who has done the work for you?  Some of my most cherished photographs are dark, heavy, grainy, soft, or somehow imperfect. Some of my favorite photos that I've ever taken are from early on in my career and they in no way fit my style now. But while I have a favorite style, I appreciate other styles and sometimes a photo would not work if taken in my style. It needs a different look to be all that it can be. I'm going to share some of my all-time favorites with you and explain why I love them and maybe even why they aren't perfect but still have beauty. Ultimately, these photos all pull at my heart and any photo that does that is a winner in my book. I might not be able to explain why but there isn't always words for things. Sometimes you are moved beyond words.
 Some people like to include props in their child's newborn or baby photos. While I love when the items are family heirlooms, sometimes it's great to start a new heirloom for your baby. I also love things that are able to be used again, loved, and support great people, which is why I am featuring these businesses today!
 Where do you fall in the birth order of your siblings? I'm the oldest of three and it's reflected in the memories I have verses what my brothers have. I've heard over and over again, and seen examples of, the idea that moms want to record their children's lives but it is overwhelming with everything else they have to do. Does this sound like you?
 When I was looking for a new journal, I knew exactly what I wanted. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to exist.
For YEARS now, I've looked for stationary sets because I LOVE writing letters to people. While I still haven't quite found what I"m looking for in a journal or stationary, I have found some really cute shops that have amazing products and I can't wait to tell you about them!  I've talked at length on here about Katelyn James and Amy & Jordan Demos. They are educators and amazing wedding photographers and without them, I don't know where I'd be!!! The definitely have helped my career so much and inspire me with how they run their business, (not to mention their beautiful photos!), but I want to introduce you to a few less-well-known photographers who are friends of mine or I'm getting to know who really inspire me every day!!
 Anyone who knows me knows that I'm not a coffee drinker but that doesn't stop me from going to coffee shops. I also love supporting local businesses whenever I can and one of my favorite local coffee shops is Red Dot Coffee Company in Northville.
 They say that buying and selling a house is all about location. I've never done that but I do know that your photos are affected greatly by the location that you choose!! A photo is a snapshot of a story - the story of you and/or your family - and the location is the backdrop to your story! If you don't have the proper setting, the story will not be right.
