It is bitter, bitter cold where I live. The real feel is -24 degrees. However, since this is the first big snow we've gotten this year, I'm going to try something I learned about from one of my Instagram photographer friends: snow cream.

I've gone back and forth on whether or not I was going to blog about this. I try to stay away from political issues on the internet. Not because I don't think they need discussed but because I don't think this is the place to have those discussions. However, this is something that touches my business so I think it's appropriate for me to say something about it.
I don't know about you, but glasses are a HUGE struggle for me. Whether you just take pictures of your family at the yearly reunion or you are a professional, it's a constant adjustment game that isn't fun for the photographer or the person wearing the glasses.
Maybe you've already heard this little hack, but I had not until last month and it is the simplest, most genius idea!!! Growing up, I heard this warning about social media. I didn't have any accounts, but I struggled with it a bit in real life. I got my first social media account in 2017 and I made strict boundaries for myself, in part, to try and avoid this pitfall. But now I have realized that I still fall for it. What game do we all play, at one point or another?
The comparison game. I met little Evelyn just after she was born but I haven't seen her in a while. I got to experience her older brother at the wedding I photographed and I think she's going to have as great a smile as him!!
My whole life runs out of my bedroom. With the exception of things I'm storing, anything I use on a regular basis is in this one room. It's a constant struggle to keep things organized and clean. The way it usually works is that things pile up until I'm fed up and then I do some moving around and putting into drawers so that it has the appearance of clean. I've made that option less available with my work from yesterday.
I was meeting with a lady back in November and it turns out that she is a photographer as well. She isn't making it her career, but she has experience and insight which I am always happy to hear. She recommended that I get connected to a photo lab and told me of the one she has worked with. I told her I'd look into it and we parted ways.
I have to stop and wonder at this life. At the opportunities I've been given. I certainly don't deserve any of it and I know I'm very blessed.
"When the going gets tough, the tough get going".
So says folk wisdom. Maybe that works for other people, but not me. When things get complicated and super hard, if I'm not invested in it, I'm super tempted to just stop. It has to be worth the effort and headache. There has to be a significant motivation pushing me forward. A "why". Photography is a creative business. Most of it deals with the art and the people. Then there is the "business" side of things that I'm having to figure out now. Thankfully, I have wonderful friends and family who can help me.
