I have an engagement shoot coming up. It's my first engagement shoot ever and I'm a tiny bit nervous. But I know the couple well, so that helps. Last Friday, I went to scout out the area where they'd said they'd like to do the photos and there were construction barriers that said "Road Closed. Local Traffic Only". So I turned around and went home, thinking we'd need to figure something else out.
See, normally, when I see signs like that, it means, "if you don't absolutely need to be in here, or if you don't live here, don't enter". They don't teach you about these kinds of signs in driver's ed! My mom corrected that assumption and told me I could have gone in. No matter. I called to talk to the bride-to-be and she said she'd be happy to meet me there and talk through what they were thinking and get my input. Okay, great. We were supposed to meet at the canoe rental place, so I look up the address, plug it into my GPS, and head out. It takes me left on the road, which I think is odd, but there is water, so I'm not too worried. Then I supposedly arrive, and there's nothing there. I call the bride to let her know I may be a few minutes late, as I'm having trouble finding the place, and then call my mom to have her look up the address again! (I don't have a smartphone :) We figure it out, my client calls me back to say she got stuck behind an accident and is running late as well, and we finally meet to do a little scouting. It all worked out but it was quite the adventure! An aside - normally, I would scout an area around the same time as the session is scheduled, to get an idea of the lighting, but we are doing a 6 a.m. session, to avoid crowds, and I'm not getting up at 5 a.m. twice in one week :) Just in case anyone wondered about that. Until next time! Blessings, Sarah
