2023 In Music

Music is a huge part of my life. I'm listening to one of my Christmas playlists as I write this. Every year, I look forward to seeing what my year in music was like with my Spotify Wrapped. I guess some part of me is kind of nerdy in that way. I was pretty surprised with what I got this year.

Genres
This was not a surprise. (I don't get the hamburger but whatever). Apparently I listened to 55 different genres this year and these are definitely a correct representation of my top five.

I have never quite figured out what "Epicore" is but it's consistently in my top five each year. Clearly it is something to do with the instrumentals that I like.

Songs
I was surprised by this! I mean, I like all of these songs, and I can't tell you what songs I expected to see, but these weren't it. However, these are all amazing songs and you should listen to them!

I guess part of the surprise is that, while Good To Be Alive is a song by Jason Gray that I like, it's far from being my favorite by him. I've been listening to Cheering You On much more than Fight On, Fighter. And I don't listen to the Sinbad soundtrack that much but apparently I listen to my Liked Songs enough. #2 & #5 are the only ones that don't completely surprise me.

Artists
Okay this needs explaining. Yes, I like David Tolk, but he isn't really my #1. What happened is that I left his "This Is" playlist going all night for several nights to help me sleep. I knew when I did it that it would skew my Wrapped. The others are accurate. Year in and year out, Jason Gray, Owl City, and Anthem Lights are in my top five. I really want to see Jason Gray in concert one day.

Oh, and I listened to 1,722 artists this year! I think that is mostly due to the collaboration playlist that my friends and I have.

Minutes
Again, this was skewed a bit by the overnight listening BUT, I do listen a LOT. Some year I really want to break 50,000 minutes. And I'm pretty sure that the October 24th listening was one of the nights I played music all night. Good thing I didn't listen for one more minute, lol :)

That's a wrap! It was a great year for music. I found a lot of new favorites and we are almost at a year of our collaboration playlist. It's been a lot of fun and I highly recommend it!

What we did was say that everyone can put in up to 10 songs each week. We have a certain day of the week for changing out songs. Not everyone changes every week but it's been cool to discover new songs/artists that I otherwise would not have known about. If you have friends or family who are big music listeners too, try it with them! And change it to fit what you can do. Maybe you just change songs whenever and let people know you updated the collaborative playlist.
